Encephalopathy with continuous spike-and wave during slow sleep (CSWS)
A rare EE, often presenting itself as a development of another, unspecified epilepsy in a child losing faculties. The primary epilepsy can be easy to treat, but after a while the child loses intellectual, linguistic, or practical skills, often accompanied by severe behavioural disturbances with lack of concentration, increased level of activity, and temper tantrums. The child will have abnormal EEG during sleep.
Gathering information about CSWS has been attacked from several angles:

  • Analysis of electro-clinical characterisitics of encephalopathy with CSWS and correlation between clinical data, EEG-data, and cognitive dysfunction
  • Clinical efficacy of Levetiracetam in children with CSWS
  • Ketogenic diet in CSWS
